VISIT TO NEWTOWN PARK

with a talk on its history presented by Richard Reeves

Friday 9th September 2016 6:30pm

Newtown Park, Portmore SO14 5RN

Although probably dating from much earlier, records show Newtown Park 1670 as having a claim for Forest Rights and the first house being built by 1716. Over the centuries it had several interesting owners including the Mitford family, otherwise resident at Exbury. In the 20th century, the sale of farmland shrunk the estate to 26 acres and the mansion house needed extensive repair.

It is currently occupied by the family of Charles Burnett, who have continued the refurbishment and reunited the farmland with the grounds restoring an estate of some 400 acres.
